History

History

The ACFR was founded in 1965 by members of the St-Jean-Baptiste Parish of Regina. It was born out of a need for the French-speaking community of Regina to have fun in French and to provide services and contribute to the expansion of the French-speaking community of Regina.

Fransaskois Flag

The Fransaskois flag was created at the end of the 1970s. It is the first French-speaking flag in Western Canada and it well represents the fervor of the original Fransaskois and the many adopted Francophones.

  • Yellow symbolizes the wheat fields in the south of the province.
  • Green represents the large boreal forest in the north of the province.
  • The green cross symbolizes the influence of the Catholic Church and its pioneering missionaries.
  • Red symbolizes the pride and courage of Francophones who must fight tirelessly to preserve their language and their rights.
  • The fleur-de-lys, symbol of the Francophonie and the French fact and emblem of Saskatchewan, takes the form of the lily that Louis Riel placed on the flag of his provisional government.
